Rocky Mountain National Park:  Road trip #11
Getting into RMNP is almost as much fun as the park itself. The trip from Loveland to Estes Park is a post card photo at every turn. Once you get into Estes Park all hell breaks loose. Estes Park is Wall Drug, Dolly Wood, Branson, and Disney World all crammed into a narrow canyon with Manhattan style traffic. I’m afraid that many people come for the hoopla in Estes Park and miss most of the rugged beauty of the real park. We didn’t miss it – it was awesome!

I nearly got into a fistfight with an attendant at a Visitor Center near Vail, CO for referring to Rocky Mountain National Park as Estes Park. As a true arrogant Coloradoan, he wouldn’t believe that most of the country didn’t know one from the other. He also wouldn’t believe that the Tetons were just as picturesque and maybe more so. I just kicked him in the shin and hid out in the ladies room.

Life is much too important to be taken seriously.”
